It's All BS

Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right - Henry Ford

  • J0410142The only thing that stands between you and having whatever it is that you REALLY want are your underlying beliefs about: what you deserve, what you can achieve and what is possible for you.

Most of us are so used to living  with our limiting beliefs that we don't even realize them for what they are.  Usually, we don't even think to question their validity.  And worst of all -- we often don't realize that we can CHOOSE to believe something else.  Something better which supports us, empowers us and propels us forward.

Therefore, if you're making "suboptimal" choices in any area of your life (and aren't most of us really --  in one area or another) the fundamental keys to turning things around are:

1) examining what the beliefs are that direct your current actions and

2) determine what you would NEED to believe to move the direction that you want to go in.

For example, as a kid in grammar school I got lost and frustrated in math at some point.  I don't think my teachers realized just how confused I was and I was too embarassed to ask for help.  Things snowballed and I did worse and worse in every mathematical subject I took.  So, overtime I developed a belief that "I am "bad" in math".  And later, "I hate math".

Fast forward to having to take statistics in college and quaking in my boots about it.  I was sure that I would fail the course and mess up my average.  But, then it occurred to me, I'm pretty smart.  I can learn a lot of other things, so why can't I learn this?  Wouldn't it be cool to do really well in this class?  What's to say that if I apply myself I can't do well in this subject, too

Rather than shut myself down before I even began, I started to force myself to look at the validity of my beliefs, to question them and consciously CHOOSE to believe something else.  (P.S. I ended up getting an A in statistics and I had a lot of fun in the class.  I even helped tutor several of my classmates.  Talk about a shift in perception?!!  Belief rules!!!)

What is there in your life right now that you really want, but aren't going for  because some part of you believes that it's not possible?  What new belief would you have to install in your brain to go for it 100%??

Today pick just one particular thing in your life that you are dissatisfied with.  What are your true beliefs about it?  Are they accurate?  Are they serving you?  What could you believe instead that would guide you in the direction of your dreams?

Not sure if you suffer from limiting beliefs?  Check out this quiz from Mandy Evans, author of Traveling Free: How To Recover From The Past By Changing Your Beliefs, on The Top 2O Limiting Beliefs....fascinating stuff.

For help revealing limiting beliefs (and installing new ones) I can't recommend Tony Robbins' Get The Edge program, which walks you through the process step-by-step highly enough.
