I May Not Be Perfect, But Parts Of Me Are Excellent

It's easy to find something about your body that you don't like..."My _____ is too ______!!" (you fill in the blanks).  No body (spelling intended) matches up to the standards we see in magazines.  The actual models don't even look the way they look in pictures for Pete's sake, and they're pretty gorgeous to start with.  (Check out this film "Evolution" from the Dove Campaign For Real Beauty if you don't believe me!)

So if you're looking for things that aren't "perfect" about your body then you'll certainly find things to obsess about.

Why is it that we (I'm talking women, as a gender) feel the need to focus on what's wrong with our bodies, rather than what's really great about them? 

I've trained models, literally bathing suit and lingerie models with "perfect" bodies, who told me about their "guts", their "flabby asses", their "giggly thighs"...all the while, I'm thinking, "Sister, you have GOT to be kidding me!!! Your "flabby ass" is worth a couple a thousand bucks a day!!!"  But, no -- they were serious.  Despite all the evidence (financial and otherwise) to the contrary, even these women STILL managed to focus on why they weren't perfect.

So let me cue you in -- you're not perfect, I'm not perfect, even most of the models we long to look like are perfect.   GET OVER IT!!! 

There is still plenty of gorgeous to be found in every one of us.  So the next time you are doing that raging-PMS, just ate the entire city of Hershey, PA so now would be a perfect time to obsess about my naked body, cellulite microscope exam on yourself -- STOP IT!!!  It's easy to rip yourself to shreds. 

Instead, try to find 3 things about yourself that are beautiful.  Your eyes, your skin, you hair (one of my friends has the most beautiful FEET -- AND nobody has beautiful feet, but she does, G-d bless her!!!)

Trust me -- there is at least 1 something (if not 100 somethings about you) that give you YOUR own particular brand of beauty.  FIND THEM!!!  ACKNOWLEDGE THEM!!!  OBSESS ABOUT THEM INSTEAD!!

What's wrong with that?  Why is our natural orientation the complete reverse?   

What's awesome about your body???  Come on, work with me here -- I know there's something.

Identify it, pay yourself a sincere compliment about it (nobody has to know), "Hey, I really do have a great______(fill in the blanks)" and then accept the compliment,"Thank you -- it's true".
